The highly anticipated Gram Premier League (GPL), a rural-level cricket tournament aimed at empowering village youth through sports, is officially set to make its grand entry into West Bengal, starting from Malda. Organized under the banner of Rashtra Vikas Kendra, GPL is designed to identify and uplift grassroots cricket talent from every Gram Panchayat (GP) across the state. To mark this significant beginning, a press conference will be held on July 15, 2025, in Malda, where the vision, structure, and upcoming schedule of GPL will be formally introduced to the public, media, and local stakeholders. The event will feature key speakers, including sports coordinators, youth leaders, and the President of CPL, Mostafijur Rahaman, who is spearheading this initiative. The GPL format allows each GP to form one team, which will compete at the Block level. The top 4 teams from each Block will qualify for the District level, and from there, 1 team per District will advance to represent at the State level. Every selected player will be offered a yearly financial package, making this not just a tournament, but a career path and opportunity for rural youth. โThis is more than just cricket โ itโs a movement to awaken dreams in every village and provide a platform where rural talent shines nationally,โ said Mostafijur Rahaman. The GPL aims to combine sportsmanship, community unity, and career-building in a single platform โ bringing hope, pride, and possibilities to every corner of rural India.
